Not Even Not Zen 450: Poem - Hug the Thornbush

Hug the Thornbush

You can call me stupid.
You can call me dumb punk
And tell me to go hug a thornbush.

I call myself names, too.
Why wouldn’t I?
I hug thornbushes.
And they feel good.

I know people say
Why pierce your flesh with thorns?
You will cut and bleed,
You will shiver and cry,
Your body will be covered with scars.

I know people say
Why would you hug a thornbush
And I reply, why wouldn't I?

I will cut and bleed.
I will shiver and cry.
My body will be covered with scars.

Someday I'm gonna make it.
I'm gonna be one, big scar someday.

You can call me stupid.
You can call me dumb punk.
I embrace those names. I hug bad things.
I hug thornbushes.
Why wouldn’t I?

If I'm too dumb and ugly
For people to hug
I'm gonna be one big scar.

I know people say
Why would you hug a thornbush
And I reply, why wouldn't I?

Scars make flesh thick and ragged
They make you tough.
You get better at hugging thornbushes
and that’s going to be my life.

Call me what you want.
Stick me full of thorns.
I embrace it all.
Why wouldn’t I?

Look at me, smelling like roses
And my body one big scar.
